7 Advantages of a Growth Mindset in a Dynamic World

by Muyiwa Gam-Ikon

One of the best things you can do for yourself in life is to develop a growth mindset. A dynamic world demands that we are all up and doing in our thought process in order to remain relevant and connected. I will be highlighting seven advantages you can derive from embracing a growth mindset, as I’m certain it will help you in various ways. A growth mindset can actually change your life, but if in doubt, I suggest you read on.

Carol Susan Dweck, an American psychologist in her study of a group of students, observed that one group got problems that were fairly challenging from a nonverbal intelligence test. These students were presumed to be the “smart ones” and were lauded for their performance, saying things like “Amazing, you got 70% right. That is a great score. One more group of students took a similar test, but were lauded for being somewhat unique: “Amazing, you got 70% right. That is a great score. You probably worked hard. ” Thus, the primary group of students was lauded for their intelligence, and this pushed these students solidly into the fixed mindset.

This was shown later on when these students were put in a position to make a decision: they buckled and dismissed challenging new assignments, in spite of the fact that they could gain from them. The second student group, be that as it may, was commended for the work they had done. This drove them into the growth mindset. A large portion of these Growth Mindset students (90%) were willing to take on new challenges from which they could learn.

Focus is extremely critical in developing a growth mindset, the “right focus”. It must be noted that it’s not that students with a growth mindset were less intelligent or invested more energy than the other groups. Not at all. It was all about focus. They concentrated more and were ready to zero in on effort rather than on intelligence. For those with a fixed mindset, intelligence was given more priority than effort. So, with the right focus, you can change your mindset from a fixed mindset into a growth mindset.Growth mindset B

At the point when the two groups of students got an intelligence level test with a bunch of more difficult issues, it turned out that the fixed mindset of students, who were adulated for their intelligence, felt that they were not really gifted, all things considered. Assuming achievement equates to intelligence, then failure implies deficiency! For the Growth Mindset group of students, the arrangement of more difficult issues was just a sign that they needed to invest more energy.

As a team leader, how would the above scenario affect your team management? How about nurturing your children? Or on the other hand, in any event, for you… managing yourself?

Incidentally, if you desire a culture of open discourse and trustworthiness in your group, your family, or even inside yourself, then, at that point, you better begin fostering a growth mindset. It turned out that most students with a fixed mindset were untruthful when their scores were requested. They lied about their scores since they needed to appear more successful. For individuals with a fixed mindset, imperfections are disgraceful. Dweck’s: “What’s so alarming is that we took ordinary children and made them into liars, simply by telling them they were smart.”

Along these lines, assuming you need to foster a solid relationship with your children, you need to adulate them for their efforts, not really for their insight.

Here are some benefits you can enjoy when you start moving away from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.

1.)If you embrace a growth mindset, you will take much more responsibility for your life. When you experience failure in any area of your life, rather than sitting back and regretting, you will be more concerned about your response by taking control and being in charge because you are capable of continuous self-development.

2.)With a growth mindset, hindrances or obstacles on the pathway towards achieving set goals on your first attempt do not get you depressed, frustrated, or lethargic because you are realistic. Rather, your optimism drives you forward, making you unstoppable, a success, and also happy.

3.) Creativity is a hallmark of a growth mindset because it allows you to be more creative in problem solving. When my son misplaces his eraser at home, I have the belief that within a short while I can find it. My subconscious mind is more perceptive of the eraser, and my mental filter will permit the picture of the eraser to appear in my conscious awareness as quickly as I spot it. What you are in search of does not matter once you have the belief that you will find it. A growth mindset is what makes this possible because someone with a fixed mindset will communicate to themselves the impossibility of finding a solution.Growth mindset A

4.) With a growth mindset, throwing in the towel and giving up on your efforts to achieve your goals is not tolerated and is less than with a fixed mindset. Surrendering implies that you’ll never be successful. Instead, with a growth mindset, you are not deterred, so you pursue your goals until they are attained, thereby making you much more successful.

5.) When you have a growth mindset, you will be much more open with yourself and others. Admitting failure will not be a challenge as well as a celebration of success for yourself and others, because for you, learning and self-improvement happen best through these experiences. You will become a faster learner and acquire new skills with a growth mindset, which will make you more successful.

6.) If you have a growth mindset, you will be more focused on completing difficult tasks. This implies that you have a higher chance of doing the hard work than someone who has a fixed mindset. This translates into more success if you have a growth mindset.

7.) A growth mindset allows you to be more adaptable because you will be more open to change in and around you. Change is the only constant thing in life, so the person most open to change will be the most successful. Success is more or less guaranteed with a growth mindset.

Because the world is constantly changing, a growth mindset acts as a safety valve to help protect against the ups and downs of life. Investing in possessing one is a worthwhile venture, as with the right focus, man can truly change. We all want to be happier and more successful. Let’s embrace a growth mindset.
