7 Ways: How Education Helps Guarantee Success in Life

by Muyiwa Gam-Ikon

Education is seen by many as the key to success in life. Therefore, getting a good education has for years been accepted as the appropriate thing to do. In fact, it is seen as a meal ticket for success in life. But can we really guarantee success in life through education?

For generations, parents and teachers have encouraged their wards to further their studies with the firm conviction that education is the key to success, which has virtually led to the accumulation of degrees.

South African anti-apartheid revolutionary and political leader Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela once said, “”Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another. ” These words will hold true forever.

Education

From our high school level to graduation, we get to ultimately know that education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, morals, beliefs, habits, and personal development. Education originated as the transmission of cultural heritage from one generation to the next. With proper education, our minds should be broadened, thereby giving us a fresh and better perspective on the world and our lives.

7 Ways: How Education Helps Guarantee Success in Life

  • Personal Development: With education, the personality qualities of an individual such as his physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional make-up as well as his temperament and character are helped to develop, thereby gaining control of their lives.
Your birth may not have provided you with the life and person you desired. Education offers you the opportunity to change your life for the better. With self-development, your world opens up over time with new and exciting personal and even career growth opportunities. An educated mind properly focused never remains the same.
  • A better world for all: The knowledge and understanding of equity and fairness is the benefit of education. As you grow in your ability to think critically and reason better, you will be well positioned to apply these acquired skill sets to situations in your life. Through being privy to your rights and duties as a citizen, your personal judgments will be more balanced, thereby helping make the world a better place through applying the same in society.
  • It provides you with interpersonal and organizational skills: Even with the best college degree, some people struggle with time management, how to multi-task and interacting with different kinds of people, from their classmates, lecturers, professors and industry professionals. Once you get employed, these skills are vital for the future. Education ensures that you are more empowered and prepared. All of these will help you be outstanding and able to confront the challenges faced in the professional world.
  • It increases your earning power: The current average graduate salary in 2022 in the UK is just over £24,000, according to the Graduate Outcomes report by HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency). However, we’ve also heard of people reporting everything between £16,000 and £90,000.  The average figure is just that: an average. Depending on the subject you study, the industry you’re looking to work in, and a whole range of other factors, you could end up earning significantly higher or lower than the average. If a higher salary is on your wish list, you’re in luck. According to the American Institute for Economic Research, college grads aged 25-32 earn $17,000 more each year than those who didn’t go to college, and 72% of millennials of the same age say their degree has already paid off. And if you’re over 32? Don’t worry! There’s no upper limit on your earning power. Get the degree under your belt, and whatever age you are, you may find your dreams come one step closer to reality.
  • Dreams can become reality with education:  Bill Gates had a dream of putting a computer in every home: “We had dreams about the impact it could have.” We talked about having a computer on every desk and in every home. It’s been amazing to see so much of that dream become a reality and touch so many lives. I never imagined what an incredible and important company would spring from those original ideas. They got the right education, and the rest is history. College connected him with a chance to live his dream as he met with co-travelers on his life journey.
  • It improves your financial intelligence:  To a great degree, financial literacy can only be contemplated when one is educated. Financial literacy, which is the ability to know how to manage your financial resources, is improved and sharpened with education. Basic financial literacy helps people to become self-sufficient and achieve financial stability. Financial education is the ability to understand how financial resources work. Who would not want to know the interplay of financial tools, data, and instruments as the value of money cannot be underestimated in the world today. According to CFI Education Inc., financial literacy is the cognitive understanding of financial components and skills such as budgeting, investing, borrowing, taxation, and personal financial management. The absence of such skills is referred to as being financially illiterate. I doubt if we sincerely want to be regarded as such.
  • Education helps you specialize and focus your energy: Whatever your chosen course of study, be it architecture, engineering, business management, music, or coding, following a curriculum from beginning to end enables you to channel energy and intellectual ability in a targeted way. You can achieve a more energetic, purposeful, and rewarding life through learning a new skill or subject.

Conclusion

How Education

It must be noted that schools don’t teach people how to be successful in life but application of knowledge is what can guarantee success when focus is adopted in learning. Education opens up our minds, broadens your horizons and makes your life richer. What other reasons would one have for getting educated? You can get into new industries, be taken seriously and boost your overall confidence. It can be tasking to spend long hours studying on your laptop or long days in the library, but “The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” —B. B. King

It remains with you forever.
